What is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy encompasses the many different types of hands-on techniques your physical therapist may choose to target your particular issue. Soft tissue mobilization (similar to massage), joint mobilization and manipulation (similar to chiropractic), and dry needling (similar to acupuncture), are some of the techniques your PT may incorporate into your plan of care depending on your goals and clinical presentation.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise system focused on strengthening and coordinating the deep core system (diaphragm, pelvic floor, deep abdominals and deep back muscles). Pilates uses special spring loaded equipment to replicate the pulling, pushing, and rotation movements of daily life. Pilates programming is customized for the individual.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback for pelvic floor muscle retraining is a treatment to help patients learn to strengthen or relax their pelvic floor muscles in order to improve bowel or bladder function and decrease some types of pelvic floor pain. A small machine interprets electrical activity of the pelvic floor muscles during lifting, lengthening, and coordination exercises.

What is a pessary?

A pessary is a small ring shaped device designed to support the bladder and cervix (pelvic organs). Pessaries can help control leakage by supporting the bladder neck and urethra. They come in a variety of shapes to match your specific anatomy.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a type of trigger point therapy that involves inserting thin needles into muscle tissue to treat pain and movement issues. It's also known as intramuscular stimulation or trigger point dry needling. As a licensed provider, trigger point dry needling is one of Dr. Toussaint’s favorite tools to address myofascial pain syndromes head to toe.

Do I need a referral from my Physician or Midwife?

You do not need a referral to get started with physical therapy. After we complete your initial evaluation, we will send your plan of care and/or referral request to the provider of your choice (typically your Family Doctor, OBGYN, Midwife or Chiropractor).

Do you accept insurance?

ATX Pelvic Health does not contract with any preferred provider, meaning we do not directly bill insurance. However, you may pay for services with an HSA/FSA card and we will submit all claims for you. Click the ‘Help With Insurance’ button below.
